J.M.J.
In response to several requests we have had, we are in the planning
stages for a two day session to be held at St. Barnabas Church, Omaha,
Nebraska, some time after the first of the year, that will focus on
what "Ritual Notes" calls "The Manner of Celebrating Low Mass."
This two day session, using the 11th Edition of Ritual Notes as a
primary text, will be geared for those interested in learning to offer
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Low Mass form, according to precise
ritual as expressed in "Ritual Notes" and "Ceremonies of the Roman
Rite Described" by Fortescue, which is, of course, the same manner of
saying mass as is used in the Extra-ordinary form of the Roman Rite,
the Traditional Latin Mass.
Participants in the session will learn the precise movements, and
motions of the priest saying Low Mass, in accordance with these
rubrical authorities.
This session will focus not only on the mechanics of properly
following the rubrical authorities, but also provide good fellowship
in a learning enviornment of fellowship, hospitality and good, old
fashioned, Anglo-Catholic humor, as we focus on a program of events
geared not only to those somewhat newer to this expression of the
Mass, but also for the experienced who may wish to refresh on the
finer points.
This session is geared not only toward priests, but also to altar
servers.
While every provision of these rubrical authorities may not be
reasonable for every local congregation, this session places
participants in the position of knowing EXACTLY what is officially
proscribed, and then being able to deviate as they deem appropriate
for their local situation and pastoral realities.
Those who have interest in such a program are asked to indicated that
by email to anglican at cox dot net. We are still very much in the planning
stages, and intend to tailor the end result of what we offer to the
feedback we receive from those interested.
Faithfully,
Sean W. Reed
